Supporting Wildlife in Pender Harbour

About the Society

Founded in 1979, the Pender Harbour and District Wildlife Society has sought to reverse the damage caused by human habitation and improve the life of flora and fauna across the length of the Sunshine Coast. With projects that promote the well being of wildlife, remove invasive plants, and reach out to the community, we believe in improving our environment for all of its inhabitants.

The PHWS is comprised of nearly sixty people from retirees to children, local residents, guests, and seasonal vacationers united under one goal. Members range from back yard naturalists to experienced experts, artists, biologists, teachers, and conservationists.

Our members celebrate nature with their many hobbies, including photography, fishing, sailing, bird watching, hiking, and biking.

Aims and Objectives

  • Promote the value and benefits of wildlife conservation
  • Create awareness and respect for the intrinsic value of our wildlife, parks, and outdoor recreation
  • Promote the establishment of parks for education, recreation, and observation of wildlife
  • Promote the conservation of salmon, trout, and wildlife in Pender Harbour
  • Protect essential watersheds and the ecology of river and stream estuaries from mining, logging, and farming
  • Support initiatives for clean air, land, and water
  • Co-operate with other conservation organizations with similar aims

The PHWS is a proud member of:
